Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tallahassee FL
812pm EDT Sat August 15 2026

Issued at 812pm EDT Sat August 15 2026

Have updated the Probability of Precipitation for tonight based on current radar trends and latest CAMS guidance. This amounted to a redistribution of where we have rain chances reflected for the rest of this evening. No other changes were needed.

.SHORT TERM & Long Term (This Evening through next Friday) Issued at 228pm EDT Sat August 15 2026

Strong ridging aloft will continue to bake the region under hazardous heat conditions well into next week. A Heat Advisory has been issued area-wide for Sunday, and future heat advisories are likely to be needed for at least some portions of the area each day into next week. Please take care during this heatwave and be cognizant of the cumulative effects of multi-day heat exposures. Abnormally warm low temperatures will also inhibit the ability to adequately cool overnight and may also enhance vulnerability to excessive heat during the day.

Despite the ridging, ample moisture along with several forcing mechanisms such as the seabreeze, a front well to the north, and inverted troughs moving across the region will still lead to scattered showers and thunderstorms each day. Some days may even see storms lasting longer into the evening than is typical, especially if they are originating along the stalled front well to the north and moving southward through the day. Expect storms that develop to pack quite the punch, with ample moisture and instability leading to a strong to severe storm risk nearly every day. The greatest threats are forecast to be damaging wind gusts, lightning, and locally heavy rainfall.

Marine
Issued at 228pm EDT Sat August 15 2026

Persistent high pressure maintains favorable boating conditions the next several days outside of thunderstorms and potentially fair-weather morning waterspouts. Light to gentle west breezes are forecast through the weekend with daily afternoon seabreezes along the immediate nearshore legs. Prevailing west winds become moderate to start next week.

Fire Weather
Issued at 228pm EDT Sat August 15 2026

The main fire concerns are hazardous heat conditions persisting at least into the first half of next week, daily chances for afternoon thunderstorms, and high dispersions for parts of SW GA & SE AL on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

High temperatures well into the 90s will be common with heat indices of 108 to 113+ degrees. Even hotter conditions will be possible early next week.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon. Isolated damaging gusts are the primary concerns along/north of the I-10 corridor. Frequent lightning, gusty/erratic winds, and locally wetting rains are additional threats.

Prevailing west winds are forecast outside of daily afternoon seabreezes.

Hydrology
Issued at 251am EDT Sat August 15 2026

Thunderstorms will be capable of producing localized nuisance flooding in urban, poor-drainage, and low-lying areas. Otherwise, there are no significant hydrological concerns the next several days. All area rivers are currently running well below action stage.
